Trauma and the Brain

Chronic stress and trauma can have dramatic negative impacts on mental health and behavior. We know that these effects are not just behavioral. They are driven by changes in the brain. This talk will explore how trauma and chronic stress impact the brain and connect those changes back to behavior. We’ll discuss impacts on the stress response system, as well as different areas of the brain related to emotion and learning. Having a solid understanding of the connection between experience, the brain, and behavior will strengthen your ability to assess, explain, and address stress and trauma-related behavior. This, in turn, will improve your ability to help the animals around you.
